Imbros Gorge – Frangokastello

Rate this post
A natural beauty, not as well known as the Samaria Gorge, is the magnificent gorge of Imbros. The route runs through an 8 kilometers long valley between mountains and villages and the total descent is around 600m. It’s almost parallel to the Samaria gorge and it takes almost 3 hrs walking. The bus will be waiting for you at the exit of the Gorge at the village of Komitades. Our next stop is at Frangokastello, a venetian fortress located in the south coast of the island. It is famous for the “dew men” (“Drosulites”), the phantoms soldiers, who lost their lives there during a great fight; they appear once a year, in May, early in the morning. Also, take your time to the beautiful beach where you can swim or enjoy a meal at the local taverns. This walk is suitable for children.
